Pokémon GO Fashion Week - Start Date, Furfrou Debut, Timed Research, and More

Pokémon GO had a quiet summer, but the Season of Mischief is bringing events every other week, or so it seems. Pokémon GO Fashion Week is the next such event, kicking off after Oshawott Community Day has concluded, and bringing a new sense of trendiness to Niantic's AR game.

As well as the addition of Furfrou to the game, Fashion Week debuts new Pokémon GO mechanics, which could impact future Pokémon releases. Along with two new research paths and, of course, new costumed Pokémon, Pokémon GO Fashion Week is an exciting event for Pokémon fans.

Unfortunately there's no sign of cowboy hat Caterpie, or whatever other costumed monster that the Pokémon community has set its heart on, but the new additions will be must-catches for collectors out there.

When Is the Pokémon GO Fashion Week Start Date?

Pokémon GO Fashion Week starts on September 21 at 10:00 local time. It ends a week later, on September 28 at 20:00 local time.

Furfrou Debuts

Furfrou, the most fashionable Pokémon of them all (apparently, try saying that to Sitrus Berry Snorlax), is releasing in Pokémon GO Fashion Week. However, it's not quite as simple as that, because it has 10 different forms in the game as well as a new form change mechanic.

You can read all about the new mechanic, and all of Furfrou's forms, in our Pokémon GO Furfrou forms guide.

New Costumed Pokémon

Butterfree, Sneasel, and Blitzle all have costumes during this event. Whether you're a fan of Sneasel's little beanie or Blitzle's collar, you'll be able to get your hands on the limited Pokémon in the wild during the Fashion Week event.

Last year's costumed Pokémon, Smoochum, Kirlia, Shinx, and Croagunk, will also be appearing during the event.

Shiny Blitzle is also debuting during the event! It will remain shiny after the event, but it's a rare spawn so you'll be lucky to get one outside of Fashion Week. That said, you won't be able to evolve a costumed Blitzle, so you might want to get a regular shiny too to evolve it into a shiny Zebstrika.

Pokémon GO Fashion Week Wild Spawns

The following Pokémon will be spawning in the wild. An asterisk* denotes that the Pokémon can be shiny:

  • Blitzle*
  • Butterfree*
  • Croagunk*
  • Furfrou
  • Kirlia*

More Pokémon will be available as raid bosses, so check out our guide to get the lowdown on the bosses, their counters, and the best movesets to take them out.

Fashionable Trainers

Fashionable Trainers will appear at PokéStops, much like Team Rocket Grunts do. It remains to be seen exactly what rewards these trainers will offer, or whether they are necessary to complete the Timed Research.

There were tasks that involved defeating similar trainers last year, but this may be re-thought after criticisms regarding forcing players outside during a pandemic. There are still countries in full lockdowns, but we expect Niantic to continue with the "defeat a Fashionable Trainer" research under the guise of promoting exploration.
